Specialty Chemicals for Aircraft Maintenance

Some maintenance tasks require a chemical product with a very specific function. Rather than using a general cleaner or solvent, technicians may need a leak detector, electronic component treatment, freeze spray, or another specialty formulation.

Leak Detection

Sherlock Leak Detector is a liquid leak-detection solution used on tires, gas lines, and other pressurized objects. When a leak is present, the solution produces visible bubbles that help identify the location of the leak.

BAC lists Sherlock Leak Detector as meeting MIL-PRF-25567E and having a 24-month shelf life.

Electronic Component Testing and Protection

Miller-Stephenson Quik-Freeze Anti-Static MS-242N-AS is used for hot-cold intermittence testing of electronic components and for protecting components during soldering.

Specialty electronic chemicals should be used according to the manufacturer's instructions and only where the product is appropriate for the component and test procedure.

Plastic-Safe Electrical Cleaning

LPS 04620 Plastic Safe Cleaner is formulated for cleaning electrical assemblies made from plastic and metal. It is designed to remove oil, grease, dirt, and other contaminant buildup without leaving residue.
