Magnaflux NDT Testing

Magnaflux NDT testing products provide consumable materials for liquid penetrant inspection and other nondestructive testing applications. BAC carries Magnaflux Spotcheck and Zyglo products including penetrants, cleaners, developers, and complete inspection kits.

Liquid penetrant inspection is used to locate surface-open discontinuities in compatible nonporous materials. The process uses a penetrant, cleaner/remover, and developer to produce visible indications of flaws that may otherwise be difficult to detect.

Magnaflux Liquid Penetrant Testing

Magnaflux liquid penetrant testing products are designed to support nondestructive inspection of components for surface-open discontinuities. BAC carries both visible dye penetrant and fluorescent penetrant products, along with the associated cleaners and developers.

Magnaflux Spotcheck Products

Magnaflux Spotcheck SKL-SP2 is a solvent-removable red dye penetrant designed to locate surface-open flaws and discontinuities. BAC lists it as meeting AMS 2644 and providing a 1,825-day shelf life.

Magnaflux Spotcheck SKC-S is a non-halogenated cleaner used during the liquid penetrant inspection process. It is applied to a cloth to remove surface penetrant before developer is applied.

Magnaflux Spotcheck SKD-S2 is a ready-to-use developer containing white developing particles in a fast-drying solvent. The resulting opaque white background provides contrast for penetrant indications.

Magnaflux Zyglo Fluorescent Penetrant

Magnaflux Zyglo ZL-27A is a fluorescent penetrant designed for detecting fine surface discontinuities. BAC's product documentation identifies applications including critical components, precision castings, precision forgings, and machined components.

The product documentation lists compliance with specifications and standards including AMS 2644, ASTM E1417, ASTM E165, and MIL-STD-2132. Always verify the current applicable specification and inspection procedure before use.

Liquid Penetrant Inspection Process

A typical liquid penetrant inspection process involves several controlled steps:

1. Surface preparation: Clean the component so the penetrant can reach potential surface discontinuities.
2. Penetrant application: Apply the appropriate penetrant to the inspection area.
3. Dwell time: Allow the penetrant to remain for the specified time.
4. Excess penetrant removal: Remove surface penetrant according to the applicable process.
5. Developer application: Apply the appropriate developer.
6. Inspection: Examine the developed indications using the applicable inspection method and lighting requirements.
